Hey, I've bought the above hard drive and I have a question.

Did you install the included sotware?
Is it necessary?

THanks all, I'm looking forward to trying it out!

No, you don't have to, it probably just does backups so it's totally optional.

Geez, did some crap typing on my first post. Lol!

Thanks for the answer.

I was thinking of using synctoy, do you have a better recommendation?

The software that comes with the drive isn't accessible, and definitely not necessary since I've had mine for a year and a half.

Windows will see the drive once you've turned it on, so no need to install any software. The software that comes with these drives is useless.

If it was free, you didn't buy it!!! Lord have mercy on these people who have NO Brains!

Laud have mercy on these idiots who can't read posts - I'm talking about you post 6.
Even if she did say that it was *free* with the drive, did it not cross your mind that part of the price of the drive would go towards the cost of the software?

Do you know what else I find stupid and slightly funny? It's when all these people sit in front of there computers and fall for money making skemes. If we take your website for example and I'm using your in a very loose sense here, it does a fairly good job of not actually telling you what you do on the front page. One has to wonder why you haven't bought a domain if this venture is so profitable? Do you love working from home because in actual fact your doing nothing?

@polka, backup isn't really my strong point; I usually just copy & paste the stuff that I want to backup. Having said this, it's important that you pay more attention to it than I do so you should probably get to know sync toy or I've heard good things from people about syncback.

Hi all,

Ok, I'm moving right along. Here are some extra questions.

I have deleted the Free Agent software.
Is it a good idea to format the drive? It is already ntfs, or whatever that is.

The only reason I'm wondering is because it seems like the space that the software took up, is still being taken up. Lol!

Otherwise, I think I'm good to get going! I am so excited to free up some of my poor 80gig laptop hard drive. Gall, remember when that seemed large?

Thanks all!

That software isn't what's taking some of your space, the file system is what does that, even if you did reformat, that space would still be used, and it's already been formatted in ntfs anyway, so no need to bother with a reformat. The only time I'd think of doing a reformat is if it's a drive that's done in fat32, or if it's a drive that hasn't been already been formatted.

Free Agent is the name of the software, it's not actually free. lol

No need to format. It's new. You know strange as this might seem scan it. Walmart had sold some games and such with virous already installed, but otherwise go store it! Have fun. :)
